Guilty! Spent the weekend in OH with my boy for their youth hunt. He can't hunt with a firearm in MI, but can in OH. We had a great weekend. He hasn't shown a lot of interest, but this weekend sorta fired him up. Saw plenty of deer, and came close a couple of times.
I will say that as far as sighting big deer, this has been the best season for me since joining ASC. I have seen 5 bucks that would easily make P&Y minimums, one that would be pushing the limits, and one, I think was big enough, but only got a glimpse of. Unfortunately, I'm never quite in the right spot to make it happen. Had plenty of youngsters walk right under me, and done real well killing does.
Not sure if our efforts to reduce the doe numbers or the baiting ban, or what, but it's been a heck of a good year by my standards.

I would agree with Todd that this has been by far the best year for buck sightings. My son shot over the top of a respectable 7/8 pt. and he also saw a nice 10. I think the 10pt. he saw might be the one that Chad's son got. Plus I've seen alot just driving around our hunting area. I saw an absolute monster buck across from the lumber mill by Hillsdale 122. Was the evening of November 14. There were about 20 does in a herd so I shined my lights on them. Standing on the very edge of the field was a huge majestic buck. One of those 12-16 pt. type. Wide and tall. Big boy. He quickly vanished while the does just hung in the field.
There could be several reasons for this. I'm thinking the baiting ban has certainly helped. Deer are forced to stick to their natural travel pattens and behaviour as opposed to hopping around from bait pile to bait pile. I think the bucks tend to be less nocturnal as well. At least to a point. As far as our restrictions I'd like to think they help but can't help feel that most of it is out of our control since our parcels are generally smaller and amongst so much other land thats hunted around us. Who knows what goes on with all the other lands and hunters. But its good that we do it.

Yeah, I too have seen more bucks than I ever have before. Granted most were on the new properties, so that helped. Was a great season for me, and I didn't even hunt much in November! (yea, I know, I'm an idiot). I kinda lost a little momentum.
