Antlerless Deer Applications Now on Sale

Hunters may now purchase an application for an antlerless deer license.
More than 600,000 licenses are available. All licenses for public land
and most licenses for private land in the northern two-thirds of the
state are subject to a drawing. The application fee is $4.

“Last year we had 10 deer management units in the Upper Peninsula and
the northern Lower Peninsula that sold out of private-land licenses
completely by 5 p.m. the first day,” explained DNR big game specialist
Rod Clute. “We believe making those licenses available by drawing is a
more equitable way of distributing them.”

An application for an antlerless deer license may be purchased at any
license agent or online at www.michigan.gov/dnr. Hunters may apply only
one time, for a single license for either private or public land.
Deadline for application is Aug. 15. Any leftover licenses will go on
sale over the counter Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. You need not have applied for
an antlerless license to buy the leftover licenses.

To avoid being disqualified from the drawing, hunters who have
purchased more than one antlerless application should return to their
license agent and void all but one application by Aug. 15. Hunters who
wish to acquire more than one antlerless license must wait until
leftover licenses go on sale Sept. 17 at 10 a.m.

Antlerless deer licenses will not be available for Roscommon County for
the 2008 deer hunting seasons, per a decision made by the Natural
Resources Commission at its July 10 meeting in Munising.

Wildlife officials have noted several errors in the table of available
antlerless licenses printed in the 2008 Michigan Antlerless Hunting
Guide. Corrected tables and a new map, reflecting the change in
Roscommon County, are being sent to license agents. The state’s
computerized license system has been updated and hunters will be able to
apply for any antlerless license that is available through the drawing.

Hunters are reminded that youths (ages 10-16) may purchase one
antlerless deer license without application during the application
period for any DMU open to antlerless license quotas.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use
and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future
generations.

Hunters Reminded to Make Only One Application for Antlerless Deer Licenses

The Department of Natural Resources reminds hunters applying for an antlerless deer license that they can make only one application. This limit promotes an equitable distribution of private and public land antlerless deer licenses in areas where licenses are typically in high demand.

To avoid being disqualified from the drawing, hunters who have purchased more than one application should return to their license agent and void all but one application by Aug. 15.

The antlerless license application period runs through Aug. 15, with applications available at all license agents and online at www.michigan.gov/dnr . Hunters who wish to purchase more than one antlerless license must wait until unsold licenses go on sale Sept. 17 at 10 a.m.

The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.
