A neighbor west of us lost his herd of bison, 36 animals I hear. A group of them walked thruogh 116 this morning. I understand the owner is unprepared for this problem. He has no idea how to get them back. So if you are calling turkeys be prepared to have something a lot bigger walk up.
That makes for an interesting encounter in the dark morning of a turkey hunt. I guess either dark or light, it would be interesting. Is the bison season open?
It was quite interesting I was sitting in unit D watching the sun come up and heard the clomping of hooves I turned around to the west looking for one hell of a deer herd and saw bison heading down the field edge. I couldnt believe my eyes then thought maybe Dan added some new animals to his farm. I walked in around 11am to deal with 5 messages from work and didnt see any bison in the pens and was concerned I hadn't been getting enough sleep and was hallucinating or maybe having a native american vision. I was relieved to hear from Mrs. Gromek that Bison had run off from a farm north on 19. Anyhow it was very cool even though I didnt see a turkey other than the 1 I scared off his roost that day and couldnt call back.
Interesting day. Early afternoon I was in the pasture talking to clients when we herd two shots to the north. Maybe someone got a bird. Then about 15 minutes later we counted a good 20 deer running from the property heading east. Another 15 minutes and we see one of the bison running from unit c to unit e. Never a dull day.
