Occurred to me that I;ve never seen anyone comment on Bear hunting. Does anyone hunt bear or have an interest. There's alot of outfitters in UP and even in Canada (across bridge in UP) that are pretty low cost hunts. One I know of in particular is $740 for a week.
I also found a lease in the UP, Gobegic county, 640 acres with excellent Bear hunting. Just a thought. I've never done it but know people who have/do. They love it. Seems to be a low cost hunt and the UP has alot of opportunity.

I have gotten a bear license a couple of times for the the red oaks area (northeast LP), but never seen a bear big enough that I wanted to shoot.

| Does anyone know how to find someone who runs them with hounds? I think I'll be getting a tag next year. |

I've got a buddy in the EUP that runs hounds with great success rate. He specifically targes boars that are 250lbs at a minimum. If you would like I can pass his cell phone number onto you. I personally by a participants tag at the minimum to go out with him every year and it's a lot of fun.

The gentleman is Adam Bennett his cell is 906-630-5002. He has been a long time friend of mine please feel free to reference my name. Adam is a true upper and not really big into technology so you won't find any information on him on the internet. His guiding service in the fall is all word of mouth. One thing to keep in mind with hound hunting is that you don't need to worry as much about the first/second season hunt and it is much easier to pull a 3rd season tag.

I will have to check but I think I mentioned my bear hunting last year? I hunted in Baraga with a guide. I had the first hunt. Spent the first week up there, saw bears. Went back for several long weekends. I was looking for something big. The second to the last night of the season I had him come in at dark. Took what I thought was a good shot. Watched it flip over on its back and lay there about 20 seconds. It tried to get up and stumbled and crawled into the woods. I should have shot again but figured it was finished. Next day we tracked it and lost it after 300 yards of thick swamp. My guide said by looking at the blood on the trees and tracks it was big. I had one more night left but was sick so I packed up and went home. It was my first bear hunting experience. I got hooked, was even considering doing a bear hunt somewhere this year. We have hunts in the western states on AWA lands also. Those would be spot and stalk. I might consider hitting Canada this fall if I have the time.

Bob, you did post your bear hunt last fall. If your going to run bears with hounds I hope you have a very comfertable pair of boots, don't think it's just driving around in a truck and getting out and walking 25-100 yards and shooting a big bear. That only happens in the videos and to your buddy or last week, when its your turn to shoot you will have at least a mile walk to the dogs about 3/4 of the way to the tree the bear will jump and off you go (away from the trucks) for another 2 miles before it trees again and when you get there it will be a small sow and something you don't want to shoot any way. Just trying to get you prepared for what your lible to find when hunting with hounds. If your hunting with a guide and its a hound hunt prior to booking your hunt ask him what the adverage age of his hounds is? the adverage age should be 4 years old or older anything younger and your not going to have to much fun IMHO.
