I shot the new Bowtech 101st and 82nd Airborne and well as new Mathews DXT recently. Wow! What they are doing with these new bows is unreal. All three were amazing. Silky smooth, quiet. And the speeds. 82nd is rated at 350fps with speed cam. 338fps with smooth cam. DXT is 322fps.
One thing I noticed is the Bowtechs with the speed cams. Theres a little extra "Uhmmph" required to finish the draw cycle and if your not careful when your settled in for the shot it'll pull you out of the wall. Other than that, its amazing.

Hey Paul, were you shopping for a new bow or just playing? I am a big fan of both these bow lines and I couldn’t agree with you more about the technology. I shot a Mathews for several years and didn’t think it could get any better until friends started getting the newer ones and the difference was, as you said, incredible. Then Bowtech started getting really popular and they too were on the edge of technology with a little more speed. In “06” I switched over to a Bowtech Allegiance, because I have always been kind of a speed freak, and this is a very good shooter with incredible speed. I love it! Then a few weeks ago we “went playing” with the new Mathews and Bowtech and I already feel that my stuff is old and out dated. My huntin partner just went all out on a new Mathews and $$$ “OUCH” $$$ but he claims he has never shoot so good and worth the money. A new wife or a new bow??? I think ill shoot my Allegiance another year or four. Good luck, J |

Paul, that short valley at the end of the draw cycle is sort of a calling card of the Bowtechs. I have a 2003 model, and it is there. Not sure if it is good or bad, I don't really notice it anymore. I'm afraid of even trying the new ones. I've only had mine 2 seasons, so I don't want to be thinking of dropping a ton of cash.

Somewhat being forced into to new bow. My 2002 Darton Rampage is giving me all sorts of problems and tired of dealing with it. Then when I shot these new bows I was hooked. So I plan to have a new one by archery season.
Jeff - which mathews did your friend buy? Just curious. I shot the DXT. They have the new S2 and the Drenalin LD (37") new for 2008.
With the Bowtech I shot the 82nd, 101st, and the general. If you want speed the 82nd is a scorcher.

Paul, I shoot a Bowtech (Dimond Liberty) its a 05 model and I love it. I shot Jenings bows for years and never thought I would switch to a different brand of bows. But the Bowtech I shot sold me, I have shot the Mathews (years ago) and thought it was a very nice bow.
My Bowtech also has a small vally at the end of the draw cycle but like Todd say's you get used to it after time. The one I have come's in at 250 fps with a 29" 2413 with a 100gr. tip with 4" feathers. It shoots flat enough that out to 30 yards you only need 1 pin, with carbon arrows you can extend that to 40 yards with the same tip and feathers.

I've shot Darton all my life and have that loyalty thing going I guess. But ready to break it and go with Mathews or Bowtech. I've got my own little bow shop with all the tools including a bow press. Do all my own work. make up own arrows, etc. Guess I'll have to learn how to work on another brand. I'm thinking for a pure hunting bow Mathews might be best. less maintenance, smooth as silk, plenty of speed. But then that adrenalin devil pops up and says BOWTECH. That 82nd airborne flat out scorches and is fun to shoot. Anyhow, thanks for all the feedback. I'll shoot them again and decide.

| I bought a Ross Cardiac last summer. This is a great bow and not as hard on the wallet as the Mathews. |

Yea Paul, my buddy got the Switchback XT mainly because of it being such a smooth shooter but he also liked the short 31” axel to axel. This bow, thought very respectable, is not a blazer but it is a great shooting bow. There was time when one would need to decide what was most important to him, speed or shootability but with these new bows you can easily get both. Even some of the fastest bows on the market have the big brace height and are so… easy to shoot. Me personally, I like speed and energy and the idea of using one pin out to 30 yards. I seldom shoot beyond that anyway. So.. The Bowtech was the answer for me.
Bottom line and most important is the confidence to hit the spot you’re aiming for. Lots of great bows to choose from. Good luck

| A lot is personal preference and feel. I went out 2 years ago and thought for sure I was going to buy a Tribute and I ended up leaving with a Switchback XT. IMHO I preferred the smooth draw of the XT vs the additional speed of the Bowtech. Since I have been so happy with my bows that I think I have become a unpaid Mathews sales rep, and spend way too much time at the archery shop checking them out. Not sure you asked but, in my opinion the Drenalin LD is a sweet shooter but a little long for my taste in a hunting bow. Check out the regular Drenlin similar specs to the S2/Switchback with a little more speed and slim limbs(lighter). If you end up liking the S2 the best you may want to consider picking up a used Switchback not a lot of difference in bows S2 vs Switchback but big difference in price I just got a sweet 05 one used and a 2 piece Mathews quiver for $450. Depending on your draw length the DXT I have heard can cause some sight alignment issues and aggressive string wear on the bottom cam due to the short ATA. What ever you pick you cant lose with todays bow and enjoy the process you lucky dog gettin a new bow. |

Thanks for all the feedback. Helps. Going to come down to shooting them some more and deciding. The place i was shooting them actually had some switchback XTs on clearance for 629. Thought that was a pretty good deal. This is also a nice shooter. I'll keep yous posted. Thanks again.
