Any plans for a rice planting or woodduck houses on 104?
Anyone know of a group (boyscouts?) that would build the duck houses if we supplied the money or materials?
I would like to help if the club is interested.
Can we contact DU, etc. for seed & info ?

Dan, thank you for the information and phone numbers. I was going to go to the school in my area and see who the local boyscout leader was to see if they would be intrested in doing this for us, but as you have already provided me with a phone number I will call him latter in the week. Hopefully we can get them to do this for us. Thanks again for the information

I will supply the funds for the first 2 houses. Let's name the houses. Call mine Don's & Dan's. Just let me know how much and where to send the check.

Shortcut to: http://www.wildlifeforever.org/store/product.aspx?c=wildlife_forever_logo(base)&p=120058(base)&gclid=CIu44bzf1pACFQdEFQodLDBAWg This link takes you to the wildlife forever site . They have woodduck boxes made by disabled vets. Another option to consider. We can help disabled vets and the ducks.

| How about some nesting boxes for puddle ducks. I saw some on the internet last night that mallards seem to love. |

I have contacted the BoyScout leader, that Dan gave us. He is very intrested in building the box's, he just doesn't have a price as of yet. When I get a price from him I will pass the information on. I told him we would be intrested in 10-15 box's is this enough or too many? I told him to give me a price on 10 to start I wasn't sure how many we would need. I think 10 would be more then enough but am not sure any input on how many should be on the 104 property would be greatly appreciated. I like having the boyscouts do it as I think this is a great thing for the kids to do (boyscouts) besides school sports.
Willy, can you get me a picture of this nesting box for puddle ducks? I think I know what it is but am not sure. We might be able to get them to build them also, maybe we could do 10 woodduck box's and 5 puddle duck box's or some other type split.

Here is 2 of the web sites I looked at on those nesting cylinders for puddle ducks http://flwnywfowl.org/nesting.html and http://www.dakotanesting.com/order.htm one of the sites is a sales place but they have great pics and the other has instructions and stuff. I also wonder since we are a part of MUCC would they bring some kids out and film a show out there. Might be a way of getting cheap labor and supplies and advertisment for the club.

The MUCC show sounds like a great idea. I'll bring it up to John who is the contact for the MUCC guys. Might be a nice off-season segment showing placing some wood duck boxes and maybe some of the food plots I plan to work on this year with kids involved. Also, I think we should put a couple of boxes on 120 in Hillsdale. There were a lot of wood ducks using it this fall.
I will sponsor 2 boxes to put on 120.

The MUCC thing sounds great, I'm sure the boyscouts would welcome the chance of being on the tv. Willy I have fowarded the mallard nesting tube/box to the boyscout leader. I think that is something we should look into for the 104 property this would help keep the duck nest away from Preditors. It seems my traping exploits have not harmed the preditors to any great deal so far. I'm still looking for some kind of idea of how many we need out there? If anyone has any idea of how many is enough or too many PLEASE let me know, as I have no idea how many would be required on a property of this size.

Ok I have gotten word back from the Boy Scout leader in Yale. The price of the woodduck box's is $30.00 each. I am not sure if I am going to be the person that does the ordering and what not or if John Utly is going to be doing this. As soon as I find out I will let you guys know who/where to send the money. I have also sent them the plans on the Mallard nest and am waiting on a price for these, I will post the cost of these when I hear back from them.

Frank, I posted on the Michigan Sportsman Duck Hunting, and it seems the guys were paying around $12 for Wood duck boxes. FWIW, Michigan Duck Hunters Association is making mallard nesting tubes for sale this year, call:
Ken 810-223-8843
He can give you a price.
