Paul, that furharvesters.com is a great site. That is the site I got my skinning instructions from. It not only tells you how to skin a criter but it also gives you the sizes of the boards to use to put it up. This isnt much of a problem with muskrats as most people use wire strechers, but with the other criters it is best to put them on a board (mink are even sized different by sex).
I have to addmit that I have learned a lot this year. This is the first year I have put up a fur all the others I have sold in the round (whole criter). I have also learned that mink are some cagey little buggers. I have had them walk right up to my trap and not gotten them. I'm still trying though. I'm hoping my sucess will change this weekend on the mink.

Moved this out of the ASC Membership specific threads so any non-ASC member who happens through this board, can benefit from the info.

Yea the whole thing has gotten my interest as well. Especially the Raccoons. I see where you can get $10-$30 for a fur. I know the landowner in Hillsdale has big problems with too many coons getting into his chicken coops, barns, etc. When he has time he said he'll go out and shoot 5-6 at a time. There's a couple fence lines that run to his barns and the coons travel that all the time. Bet you could clean up there on the coons.

I remember the good old days. After I graduated from HS I was on apprenticeship and going to college. Money was tight but coon hunting helped me make it. I made more at night, then I did with my full time day job at 50 hours a week. Of course this was a short season up north. If longer, I would have done well until fur prices dumped. I more then covered the cost of my Walker hound's food for the year.
Glad to hear the prices are coming up.

Paul, the best I have heard of is about10-15 dollars for coon. I know when I got into coon hunting you where lucky to get 5-10 bucks and that was on a prime big boar coon. I'm hoping the weather breaks so I can catch some coon's.

Well guys, my catch so far has not been very good. I have caught 5 muskrats in 12 days of traps being in the water. I have 3 traps set for coyote/fox that I'm going to pull tomorrow 12-12. As of yet the mink have eluded me and my traps, I have learned that these little criters are not as easy to catch as it would seem.

Well I got a nice suprize when I went to pull my traps today. I had caught a nice sized boar coon. I did find that I had lost 1 trap and had a critter get out of a different one. I'm not sure if the traps are firing early and not catching the animal or what is going on. As the ice was bear I could not tell what happend to the trap that I'm missing, it is wiered that the stake and all is gone and not just the trap. I looked in the sorounding area with no luck finding either the trap or the stake?

Still the 104 property but as of right now all my traps are sitting at my house. I havent decided if I'm going to place any traps over the weekend or not. I did notice a ton of rabbit tracks on unit A, on both the east and west sides of the unit in the woods. Willy I think if you where looking for a place to run your begaels (sp?) this would be a good place. If you decided to come up that way and don't mind some company give me a call, although I'm sure you hear that alot lol. Even if you don't call I'm sure you could find a ton of rabbits in this place the tracks where every whear, I didn't see any on monday when I was looking for them but I didn't have a dog with me. Any how if you go hunting good luck and have fun.

Folks, I have someone messing with my traps out on 104. "I DO NOT THINK IT IS A MEMBER" These people are acessing the property from the field by unit F. I have placed a sign on a log stuck in a snow bank untill I can get it into the ground. If your out there and see someone please get a lisince plate number for me. I believe they took a mink out of one of my traps. I have seen their tracks on 2 different days, the first day was sunday and then again today I seen their tracks. Today they checked my traps prior to me getting there I could see where they followed my tracks to each of my traps.

I would bet this person is also sneaking in and hunting.
Too bad you could not follow there tracks to where ever they live.

He would just follow the tracks to the tree and steal it. If there was no snow that would work. He might even be doing it after dark. With snow all he has to do is follow the tracks.
