I am looking for insights into different electronic collars for my new Vizsla. I have looked at several brands and am looking for guys with experience to tell me what they think are important features, etc. I appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Kuch

Greg
I have a tritronics and use it on both my coon hounds and bird dogs. There are several good brands out there to choose from. I know the dogtra is a good one and the Inatec is also a good one. The down side to the tritronic is the size of the transmiter the plus side is the range you can reach out. All 3 brands that I have stated are very good in their own right and each have advantages and disadvantages depending on what your looking for. I don't believe you can go wroung with any of the 3 brands.

I have Tri-Tronics on my beagles and they're great. I've owned an Innotek and didn't like it. My buddy and brother both have Dogtra and neither are happy with them. There is a guy in the club who sells collars, not sure who though.

I had purchased a Dogtra becasue it was cheaper and found out it was cheaper for a reason. It worked a few months and broke. I took it back and it broke again, that time it was past the short warranty window. I have not had an issue with my basic Tritronics model for 3 years now and that is with a water dog. I had a buddy who bought collar that wasn't a Tritronics, although I don't remember the brand and it lasted all of three months.

The only other thing you may want to think about with a pointy dog is a collar that beeps when they are still/holding point so you can locate the point in thick cover. I know Todd uses that feature with his dogs and it works well.

I have since found out that the tritronics use a much smaller transmiter then the one I have for the unit I have. I know 2 people that use Innotek and they both love their units. I know the tritronics beeper is a 100 dollars extra if bought sepertly (sp?). I run the same type of beeper that Todd use's and I like it, the problem is I don't know if you can still buy it.

I have owned DT, Dogtra, and Innotek. I do like my DT, and it has a lifetime warranty (I have the pro model). It is currently out of commission, has lost it's range, but it is 5 yrs old and been abused. The Innotek I had (high end 2 dog model) was junk. Lasted just long enough to get out of warranty. That and the experience I had with on of their beeper collars, I will never own another one. Dogtra worked fine until I lost the transmitter, and it was the same price to buy a new collar as to buy a new transmitter. I know that Tritronics makes a great collar, and is probably the way I would go if I were to get a new one. I didn't buy one last time around due to the size of the remotes, but they have gotten better. My one bit of advice, is get one with at least a 1 mile range. You shouldn't need to use it at 1 mile, but it is amazing how fast that range shrinks in heavy cover.

I run 2 dogs with dual beeper/shock collars from DT. In and out of the water all day long. Going on the second season without a problem.
