This note is to say hello and let everyone know what is happening on property 116 (I am the property owner). The crop is planted and it will be soybeans this year. I believe we will plant corn next year. There are still large strips and patches of ground in grass and tree seedlings etc. I should mention that in years past (before American Sportsmens Club) the cropland was leased to a goose hunting guide. We have a large population of geese at the city ponds just south of us. The food plots were planted this spring. I purchase my seed from www.kestersnursnursery.com and have had good luck in the past. 1 The woods roads have been planted with LADINO CLOVER MIX. 2 Planted 4 plots of DEER SPECIALTY MIX, 2 on south side of unit E and 2 plots on west end of unit D. If this works well I will plant more. 3 I also planted 3 plots of TALL MIX in units C & B. The pheasant-turkeys etc. love this stuf. 4 Also put in some SUNFLOWER plots near the entrances. Only problem is NO RAIN !!!, nothing is growing. So everyone pray for RAIN ! I need help with feral cats. People keep dumping cats out here for what ever reason. If the coyotes don't get them they winter kill. Problem is they eat up a lot of wildlife, small rabbits, pheasents etc. You are all welcome to hunt them (it is not easy). I find a .22 works best. Saw one north end of unit B a couple days ago. Speaking of rabbits. I have never so many. Must be close to a population peak. Just built a large brush pile west end of unit D. I have several locations where I would like to put in ponds. Just to expensive to rent an excavator. If anyone knows where I might get one inexpensive like, I would appreciate it. Saw something for the first time about a month ago. Two big pheasant rosters fighting where unit B & C meet. I guess there are never enough hens. I check the forums now and then if anyone has any questions Dan

Dan,
If you are thinking of putting in ponds to support waterfowl habitat you may be able to get assistance from duck unlimited. They have programs to help fund waterfowl habitat expansion. Just an idea. Thanks for all of the work that you have done to support wildlife habitat.

Thankyou guys. That brings up a question? Are there any woman members? My family and I enjoy the wildlife very much, we feel blessed to be living here. Thanks for the good information and Kuch I will be calling you one day. We need rain bad nothing is growing except some weeds. Turkeys!!! We had one walk through our backyard a couple days ago. Could have hit it with a rock from my office window. Guess we could make the backyard a new hunt zone!!!!

With no rain the food plots do not look good. The neighbors corn has tassled on top but there are no ears. The field will be a total loss. I will check my seed stock and probably replant the perennials this fall. Good news, I saw a large group of young pheasants chasing bugs the other day. Seeing lots of does with fawns, many twins this year. To many deer!

Dan, We do have a fair number of women who hunt our property with their husbands. I can think of 4 off the top of my head. Since our membership is a family membership, spouses share the same priveledges as the primary member.
Hope you got the rain we did last night. We've had good amount of rain the past 4-5 days down here.

The deer mix was a failure with no rain when it was needed. The tall mix for the birds is small, but we are seeing some good seed heads. Together with the spillage from the soybeans there will be great winter feed. Just finished road work in unit D for this year. This ia about 90% complete. I reseeded these roads with ladino clover. I will reseed the food plots next year and perhaps the weather will cooperate.

I will be replanting tne Deer and Bird food plots this spring. There is enough seed left over from last year. I obtained 50 canadian hemlock to plant in groups of 10 in the hardwoods. This should make for some interest habitat. We saw a lot of Pheasants this winter but do not know how they survived. The only thing they need here is better winter habitat. That would be switchgrass. I received permission from the government to plant some in the C.R.P. areas. I could plant some every year if someone would cover the cost of the seed. Approximately $40. I like to mix in some wildflowers, they bring in the bugs for young birds.

The seed is ordered, came to $41.50. You can drop off the 20 when you are in the area or mail to 11148 Jeddo Rd, Yale Mi 48097. I will plant this spring, takes two years to really take off. Thanks again. Dan
