Folks,
I have committed to going to S. Dakota this year after pheasants. I plan to go the 1st or 2nd week of November (leaning towards the 1st for 5 days of hunting. My plan is to hunt AWA property and public land while out there. If anyone is interested, let me know. Would like to have a group of 4 or so folks to share costs, and work the bigger parcels of land.

I'd really like to be part of this conversation. Consider me VERY interested.

I been doing a ton of research on OTC/draw for Elk out west. Colorado seems to be the best bet. For an out west trip I'd like to do a big game for 1st time. But then again ,,, anyone got a good bird shotgun I can borrow.

I have 3 12's and I think a 20 or two in the gun safe. I'm sure we could accommodate you.

Plore, don't worry about the shotgun part, we all have a couple of those.
The main thing you need for South Dakota are real good walking legs. It's amazing how hoofing it through miles of high grass and rough ground can use muscles you never knew you had! .... Sure makes a man feel alive.

Todd,

I'm going with another group the 1st week of Nov. Keep me informed as to your status, perhaps we can get together while there.

On another note, did we have anyone plant wild rice or other waterfowl food on MI0104?

Rex

Rex,
As far as I know, it hasn't happened. The landowner has not given us permission to do it, yet. AFAIK.

Well, folks, got a bit of sobering news yesterday. A long time friend of mine, who reintroduced me to archery hunting after college, has a degenerative back problem, and likely won't be able to bowhunt after this year. He has never taken a big deer with his bow, and wants to do it before he has to put his bow down. I am going to dedicate this fall to getting him a shot at such a deer. Since the best chance for that to happen is the first couple of weeks of Oct, I won't be going to S. Dakota this fall. Sorry for bailing so late, if anyone wants some input on heading out there, I will be more than happy to help out.

No problem, Todd. Time afield with good friends and family is precious. Sounds like you both will make some great memories (deer or no deer)!
