I think I might try to visit the 2 club properties in Ohio this year. Just wanted to verify the licenses required. I think I need both the $125 Non-Resident annual license as well as the Non-Resident Special Deer permit.
Is that correct? I'm not familiar with the special deer permits, but it sounds like those are what contain the kill tags.
Also, am I correct in that you can take 2 deer (bucks or does), but one of them has to come from Union county since Henry county is in DMU A which has a limit of one deer?
Thanks!

You may only take 1 antlered deer regardless of where you hunt in the state, but you may take up to 3 deer total unless your hunting with some urban deer permits, then you may take up to 7 deer total. In zone A (Henry co.) you are only allowed 1 deer per license year and in zone B (Union co.) you are allowed 2 deer per license year.

You are correct. You need to purchase the non-resident license as well as a non-resident special deer permit. You may also purchase a non-resident urban deer permit which is basically a doe tag. In Ohio, once you shoot a deer you need to have it checked-in within 24hrs at one of the deer check stations in that county or the next county over in order to receive your kill tag. According to the ODNR, if you don't do this within 24hrs, you have an illegally harvested deer.

One thing that Jason forgot to mention is that the Henry County landowner had 2 landowner deer tags that any ASC member could fill and it was not counted in the 1 deer limit in Henry Co. I'm sure he would be more than happy to do the same this year, especially since we didn't kill any deer out there last season.

| Good point Todd. In fact in Michigan I believe since all our properties are privately owned we can obtain over the counter doe permits (if the zone allows). Seems like they are $3 each. I'm going to check into this especially for the Hillsdale properties. |

Yes, all our MI property had plenty of over the counter doe permits last year. Can't remember the price, but was more than $3, I think.

Yes, the landowner did get some doe tags for us last year and I don’t believe we took advantage of it. I was down there this past weekend and he told me that Henry Co. was going to the two deer system this year. We should verify this but good to here.
The Union co. property is the one that we should really try to make an effort to take some deer from. The owner is begging for it and in my opinion there is a lot more deer down there. My fear is that we might loose it if we don’t.

The over the counter Doe permits where $10.00 last season. I don't know if any of our current landowners get block permits for their propertys, The last I heared they (landowner) needs at least 80 acres continious. It might be more when I was looking into it was when they still only gave 1 Doe permit to any applicant and you couldn't get over the counter permits.

One of my thoughts to increase the doe take on our property is to include does in the buck contests. 100 pts for the first doe, 80 pts for the second on down. Would give incentive for folks to take a doe early, which is when we really need it done. In addition, I would want to see picture proof it was a doe and not a button buck to, hopefully give the little tikes a chance to get some age, too.
I tried to take an additional one last year. Missed one in OH with my ML and then had one that was in range, but just too much brush between us.
I'm hoping the additional interest in OH hunting will produce some better results on does in the OH counties. Union was just a bit too far for me to travel to. Maybe this year.

Ok, I got the NR license and the Special Deer Permit. I don't have a problem taking does, but if I take a doe with the Special Deer Permit, I can't take a buck in Henry county correct? If I wanted a buck and doe out of Henry, then I'd have to buy an additional urban deer license.
Thanks,
