Is there any members who might be interested in a Saskatchewan whitetail hunt? If I was to organize a trip. I am checking to see how much interest there would be? I would like to have 4-6 guys if we were going to do it. I have hunted Saskatchewan 6 times. I do know of a few outfitters in the NE area where I might be able to lock up a week. I even know of a few outfitters who are moose and bear outfitters that would like to guide me for whitetails in the same we have hunted whitetails. This would give us the benefit of picking the best week and saving us some big dollars. It may also not be as sucessful as someone with big dollars tied up into his outfit. I am not afraid to bring my own stands and quads if it did save me a couple of grand. Lots of options I guess it would depend on what the group wants. I have another memeber that will go where ever I go most of the time. So that would make 2 all ready.
It would be rifle. I have done a few hunts in sask for $1600. I just know what to look for. You won't kill as many 170 bucks but you get the same experience plus you still kill one of those big bodied bucks that will range 135 BC plus.
Since the exchange rate has turned, rates have went up. Once I get 5 or 6 potential hunters I will call a couple of the guides I know to see what we can arrange. The best weeks are the third week of Nov- first week of Dec. I always like the thanksgiving week. I have taken deer on the first week of Nov. The first two weeks are normally affected most by weather.
Scott I have things on hold for a little bit. I got caught working for a big company that decided to do a head count reduction. It happened last friday. I have time to decide if I want to transfer to Houston or Ohio. Otherwise, I take a nice long severance package and find a new job. This could affect my vacation time. If I go self employed I won't have to worry about that. So I really can't do too much planning right now until I know what my future is.
Would of have been nice for this to happen in the fall.
Time to bring this up for 2008. It looks like 2008 will be my year to return to Saskatchewan. Once again looking to see if anyone is interested in going with us?
I just got a call from an outfitter I used in Saskatchewan in the past. He took a few years off with whitetails and plans to try some new things in 2008.
He would like to run two weeks next year for whitetail. He was thinking about running a whitetail camp of 4-5 guys in the bush. Either in his bear camp or by wall tent. In areas where he only bear/moose hunts and no one has ever deer hunted. He says he has some good deer there. Actually Rob Trott moose hunted up in that area and showed all the deer tracks in one of his shows. He would run these in October. This is due to the fact you will have to get to camp by boat. Any later it would be a freeze up. He did not clarify if this was rifle or Muzzleloader only?
He would not bait, unless we really pressed for it. Cost of the hunt would be around $3000.00. Since the US dollar tanked he is charging a little more.
I offered to see if any members here would be interested. I am going to take one week. Might have openings with us if you are interested.
Hello Bob. I would like to consider this for me and my son. How can we get the following details? Can you talk more to the outfitter or I would also be willing if it would help. Thanks.
Does the $3000 include license and meals? Is it rifle or muzzleloader? Can we use a scope? How much would the down payment be and when is it required? When would the remainder of the fee be required? What about transportation to Saskatchewan?
I'm seriously planning to do something of this nature next fall. Always wanted to go to Saskatchawan and always wanted to do a Elk hunt out west. One of the two.
The price now is $2,600 each. I got him to come down on price. The includes everything but tags and tips. Including meals and transportation once you get to his town, Cumberland House SK.
I am going to drive but others may choose to fly and rent a car.
If we use muzzleloader you can use a scope. I would prefer a rifle hunt.
Deposit of $600 needed if you book now. $1000 deposit if you book after the holidays. Rest needed when you arrive.
The later we go the more chance it would be a hunt from his house. If we go early enough before freeze up then the hunt would be from the bear/moose camp. This is what most of the guys were thinking about. If this becomes a early Oct hunt then it would be MZ.
