The guy with the red truck told me he is the landowner. Saw him the last day of gun deer season.

He seemed like a nice enough guy, that's why I offered to help load the wood. Didn't want to cause any problems.

I think that's good that is was the actual landowner. We probably shouldn't say anything to him. Can't stop them from doing the work they need to do.

My concern was whether it was trespassers. I had a chance to talk with Scott (landowners son) about a month ago and he mentioned he had some problems with a guy cutting live trees out of section E. They told that guy to stop so was wondering if he was back. Also, Scott told me if we see anyone hunting (non-members) on the properties to make them aware they are trespassing. Main culprit is that small house just south of unit D. They've had problems with those folks in the past and from landwoners perspective they are not welcomed on property. I've seen those guys walking out of unit D several times.

Both the Bob and Scott are great for us from a landowner perspective very supportive of us. I'm sure that he appreciates that you stopped to talk to make sure he wasn't a stray tresspasser. Mike is going to mention it to Scott to be sure it was his Dad both times. Lets them know we are on top of things.

Paul, I saw those guys headed out the day you and I talked out there. I turned around to stop them, but they headed into the house. We are going to send them a letter as a warning to stay off the property. If that doesn't work, I'll eventually catch them next season.

Getting back on topic, I saw about 20-30 geese on 119 just north of the farmhouse on my way home on Monday.

Scott was saying those folks in that house own 1.5 acres around their house. This includes mostly the land the house is on plus a bit that stretches out from the house. So we should define that on our maps so that we (ASC) don't trespass on their property either. The parking spot for F is right on their property line and our map shows that house and all property as part of our land.

I'll be messing around in that area this winter quite a bit; scouting, etc. Do you mind if I post the south side of D and the east side of E better? I think that would help alot.

I'm also going to start going very soon to the Henry County Ohio property to get ready for next year there. Let me know if there's anything I can do there. I'm going to start by scouting all the units, etc.

Kuch
I have to work this sunday. I'm not sure when I'll be back out in the fields chasing geese. I'm hoping for the 14th to get out and do some hunting. Where are you located? I would like to get together and do some hunting. I'm located 30 miles north of lapeer off M-24. I'm hoping the weather gets colder with some snow, this will get the geese feeding more. Property 107 has lots of waste grain in the fields so it will be a good spot when the geese start using it.

Frank,
I live in Plymouth right off M14 and Beck roads. Let me know for sure when you are available and we can plan from there. I look forward to a bit of hunting with ya. Anyone else who would like to chase geese this weekend, let me know. I have reserved a few properties on Sunday.

Frank,

I will join you Monday if you still have room in your blind. Are you sure we don't need more decoys? I bought 6 of the full bodies and a dozen shells. All look great and I want to put them good use. I will call you on Sunday to see what's up.

If you want to bring them do so. I know they say the more the better for decoys but I have my own oppions on this issue. The more decoys you have in a field the less movement you also have, if you have ever seen a bunch of geese in a field most of the time there is a lot of movement. So I say the fewer decoys the better, it doesn't look as much like decoys or the birds don't notice the lack of movement as much. I think when they say the more decoys the better these people are hunting next to refuges and the geese are used to seeing big numbers of geese that are resting, so they don't move as much. Also if you can set the heads so the decoys look like they are resting this is another good way to go.

I'll tell you what bring your decoys and I'll bring mine and we will set up the big foot decoys and after a bit if it don't look like the birds are resopnding to us we'll set the shells up also. I've heared there is about 500-1000 birds in the area (mostly roosting on Mott lk.) If the birds havent started feeding in this field yet, they should start soon.

Frank,
How did you and Kuch do? I bet that freezing rain made for some real fun.

BTW, are you all going to try a group hunt, still? I will have to pass as the organizer, just don't have the time, so someone will need to step up and take over.

We didn't do worth a darn. The geese didn't fly till about 10am or so and when they started flying we seen plenty. The only problem was they wanted nothing to do with my pop-up hay house blind in the middle of a white corn field. Most of the geese flew to the north west of 107. With about 50-100 birds landing on property 106 behind the farmers house and barns. Then there was about the same number of birds that landed on unit D of 107 and of corse we were on unit A.

I am still wanting to do the group thing, although I'm not sure if it would be better down in the southern countys or if it would be good up here. Greg said he seen a bunch of geese on one of the hillsdale propertys I believe it was. I know Greg said he was going to hunt down that way this weekend. I was kicking the idea around of hunting with Greg again this weekend down that way but found out I have to work saturday night so I'm not sure if I'm going to hunt or where. I think if I hunt it will probly be on one of the Genesee propertys.

I think you could do well on the Genesee propertys if you can blend in better then we did Monday. I think 4 groups of hunters would cover the Genesee propertys prety well.
I would think a group of hunters on 105. A group of hunters on 106 behind the farmers house and barns. Then 2 groups on the 107 property, 1 on unit A and 1 on unit D. This would keep the geese moving in the area.

If someone wants to go out to the Genesee propertys and hunt this weekend, the places to set up are 106 behind the farmers house and barns about 200 yards back. 107 unit D in the south west corner about 50 yards off the fence row and about 100 yards in to the field. I'm not sure where the geese are going when they fly to the north west but I'm guessing if you set up on 105 you will see plenty of geese, I don't know if you can bring them in or not, I drove by it Monday and didn't see any geese on it but there is places you cant see from the parking area even with field glass. If I decide to hunt this weekend I will make another post as to where and when I'm going to be going incase any one wants to join me. Or if some one is wanting to go and looking for someone to hunt with let me know, and I might join you or at least will give you a good idea on where to set up.

Frank,
I bought one of those beach chairs that let you lie out flat. I used that with a white sheet or some camo material (match the surroundings) to lie on the ground without getting cold or wet.

I have some plastic sleds that not only help get the gear/decoys out in the field but they will work also for lieing flat in the field with a camo cover to match the surroundings.

Also Guys
I have decided to take the bull by the horns so to speak. I'm going to set up the group goose hunt. Or at least give a date and place for it at any rate. Ok here it is. 1-28-07 on the Genesee propertys 105,106 and 107 depending on how many people decide to go. Shooting hours start at 7:20am I figure all parties would need to be in the fields by 7am at the latest. I'm guessing that we will fill up the 106 and 107 propertys first then if we have to we can also move down to the 105 property. I will need to know how many people are going to go, I'm thinking we can put 3-6 people in a field. I'm guessing we could also include guest in this endevor. So come on guys give me a call and let me know your going. My phone number is (810)347-5292. I have roughly 3 dozen decoys to bring so bring some decoys and your guns and lets get some of these geese.
