Just returned from a Pheasant hunting trip to North Dakota. All I can say is wow. It was just like an ESPN show only we were hunting public land. Stayed in a small town called Klum about 1 hour and 45 west of Fargo. Rooms $35/night.

Apparently this has been a banner year for Pheasants. We walked one ditch 200 yards long and 80 yards wide. We easily jumped over 100 birds from this single area. 50% roosters! Driving along the roads you can see groups of 4-12 birds at least every mile. I never saw so many wild birds in close proximity.

We also jumped Grouse and Partridge and many deer. The Ducks and Geese have not come down from Canada yet but we were still able to fill our limit.

Can't wait to go back!

Sounds like a great trip. I have a young bird dog just itching to do a trip like that. I may just have to feed this urge when I go to KS deer hunting.

We had a Springer Spaniel that worked her tail off. She marked birds, flushed birds and didn't hesistate to retrieve from the water. She made the hunt even more enjoyable, but honestly with that many birds you don't need a dog. We hunted the first day without her and still did fine.

I'm glad I took the trip. This is the first time in 15 years I haven't gone out for bow season. Its been too busy at work. Lucky for me the owner of the company said to take a break and get out.
