Hey guys, its just about harvest time for the farmers and part of out agreement with some land owners is taking down and leaving crop to benefit our hunting opportunities. I have not been on all the properties myself and could use some input as I am getting back to the farmers with a plan early next week.

Genesee – 105, 106, 107, 117.
Cass, 111
Hillsdale – 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, 125, 126, and 128 all have opportunities and I have a good idea of what I would like to do on several of them but if you have a suggestions please let us know as soon as possible.

Thanks, J.

on 122a I would love to see the corn removed but at a minimum have the Farmer make about 3 passes with his combine along the property border so we will have a nice wide open area that the deer will have to pass thru.

119 ALSO LEAVE THE CORN IN THE MIDDLE IF POSSIBLE ONE OR TWO PASSES WOULD BE IDEAL

Hey Jeff I agree with ggrich, I think leaving the standing crops in the middle of the field instead of along the edges would be best for hunters hunting the fields instead of the woods. I know the 117 property would be best with the crops left in the middle of the fields would be best.

On 107 it would be very helpful to have a better path from the North parking lot of Dodge Rd to get back to the woods. Also, when do they take the corn down?

Next year on 112 we can work on a food plot on top of the hill of clover and chickory or some other. Also when I do post season scouting I will bring a machette to clear some lanes so we can get around the property a little quieter.

Andrew
2 years ago when they had corn in the fields, they didn't take it down till after thanksgiving. I'm not sure exactly when but it was after thanksgiving. This rain we are getting is not helping with drying the corn I've seen some fields that where almost there and now they have a lot of moisture in the corn again. We need about a week of sunny/warm weather for the corn to dry up again then the farmers should start removeing the crops.

I'm sorry I just relized your asking about 107 I thought you where asking about 117. I didn't check on the 107 property till the end of december for the late goose season and it was down then.

Guy’s FYI,

The last conversation that I had with the land owner down in Hillsdale was that he probably wouldn’t be getting to the corn until November but he would try to take a couple rows off around the perimeters of some of the wood lines. I made suggestions using the aerial photographs. When he gets to the full harvest then he will leave some standing rows up out on the middle. We have made similar suggestions to some of the Genesee Co. property as well.

Yo J. If you could have them add a restroom that would be great. Oh and a TV so I can watch football in the afternoon. Don't for get the snack bar with chili cheese fritos.

123 has the restroom! Actually a one-holer that is in pretty bad shape.

BTW, personally, I would like to see the corn stay up as long as possible. Those deer are very comfortable moving in standing corn.

Anyone know if the corn has been removed from property MI0117? Also if it has been removed was the standing crops left in the middle of the fields or along the edges?
Thanks for any input.

on 122 the corn that they removed was a good thing. The farmer needs to be warned on 2 points though. I found that doe that got arrowed and never found. it is dead about mid way in a row on A about 5 or 6 rows in from the east side of the corn. and the corn on c right at the edge of it there is some monumental chuck holes in there. I'd say big enuf that he might loose a tire in them
