Have been too busy to post much on here lately, so I'll play catchup.
Missed the pheasant opener because I had to work. Reserved 116 B&C for 10/24 and had Dan (the landowner) hunt with me. Weather was terrible. We got soaked, and didn't see a bird. My young Brit pup worked one in the corn for a bit, but we just could not get them pinned down.

10/25, I took my son out to Hillsdale to find some birds. A little bit better weather, but still less than ideal. We hunted 121 first, and had a very nice point on a big rooster, but he flushed well out of range. Place was absolutely flooded, making walking tough, and most of the good cover was under water. Next we hit up 123 units B&C. I was sure we would find some birds here, but only flushed one woodcock in the middle of the corn. Never got a shot at him, either. Despite the lack of birds, we had a good day together, and the dogs worked well for us.

10/30, I headed back to 116 by myself. Worked the cover on B with no success, and finally sent the pup into the corn. Flushed a hen early on, then went a long time without much luck. Finally, he started working, so I circled and pinned 2 roosters that flushed for easy shots. Problem is I fired at the first bird while already lining up the second and missed. My second shot hit the second bird squarely and he hit the ground with a resounding thud. Sent the pup over into C where he went down, and the pup pointed. I walked in to find a indention and feathers where the bird had hit, but no bird. We chased him south into the ditch, and made numerous attempts to pin him down, but the pup just didn't have the experience to go in and grab him. Kept stopping and letting the bird run out from under him. After quite some time, we headed back to the van to get my older dog. Along the way, we flushed a couple more roosters and some hens. I nailed one of the roosters, and let the other fly because I was sure I would get the wounded one with my older dog.

The old boy managed to find the bird, but last I saw him he was hightailing it down the two track about 400 yds in front of us. I think he ended up in the neighbors field because my old dog wanted kept trying to go in after it, but I had to call him off. We flushed a couple more hens in the process. All in all a good day, but I sure missed my old Brit. He'd have brought that rooster back for sure.

Sunday, I heade to some public land. Hooked up with Greg Kuchenburg and another buddy of mine. We walked our tails off for hours in good cover, only to flush two hens. Way too much cover still up, and need to get the beans off to make the area more productive. Was still a good day with some really wiped out dogs. Next week I'll be off, hopefully filling my buck tag early so I can get back out and bag a few more roosters before the season ends.

Sounds like you had some luck on the 116 property. I have almost given up on that property due to the pressure that it receives. My uncle and I went out sunday to a piece of public land north of me. We didn't flush any pheasants but did manage to flush 4 woodcock and 2 grouse. I managed to get 1 of the woodcock, my dog went on point about where it went down so I told her dead bird, when she moved out came a very lively woodie to my supprize. I did manage to find the bird I knocked down. Off throu the cover we went and another woodie goes up infront of my uncle with no shots, then a grouse gets up infront of him witch he missed. Have a dry spell for about 20 minutes or so when I flush a grouse but the gun don't go bang??? after looking at the gun for abit I relize the safety was broke, so head back to the truck when my shorthair goes on point and out comes another woodie. Get about 200 yards from where I relized my gun was broke and relize my transmiter for my shocking system is gone??? after about an hour of looking I gave up. We are going back out this sunday for our last trip till the late season. Good luck to everyone that goes out.
