Headed up north to my folks' place in Alpena for some grouse and woodcock hunting. Headed up Friday, and stopped at bear camp to see how Jason and the rest of the folks were doing. They were all out in the woods, but the reports were lots of bear seen. Drove to my folks' house and offloaded the gear, then spent an hour looking for birds. Had a couple points, but no birds in a cover that I will find birds in 99% of the time.

Next morning spent 4 hours in the woods with 1 grouse (wild flush) and a poorly worked woodcock. Didn't fire a shot at either one. Saturday night I opted to try to reduce the number of deer eating the corn on the farm. Saw 6 does and a small buck, but all were on the neighbor's place. But didn't have permission to shoot. Had one enter the corn just out of sight, but was so close I could hear it chewing.

Sunday morning headed back out after grouse with a little better results. Flushed 3 grouse, but none were pointed so no shots. Had very poor scenting conditions despite the cool weather. Hoping they got the rain shower we gto last night.

My daughter is going to college at Kirtland. She is the starting point guard for the firebirds. She lives in Mio, just loves it. If you need any up to date info let me know. I just text her and I have it.

Went about an hour north of me today. Had 15-20 woodcock flushs and 4 or 5 grouse flushs, ended the day with 5 woodcock and 1 grouse between 2 of us. It was a great day as we only hunted about 2 1/2 hours today. For this being the first time in the last 7 or 8 months my dogs have been out of the kennel they did a great job. Actualy had 3 double points on woodcock and lots of singles. Planning on going back up tomorrow late moring to see if this was just a fluke or not.

Went back up this morning, hunted the same place with out a flush? Moved down the road about 1/2 mile and flushed a woodcock and 2 grouse baged 1 grouse my uncle thought he got the woodcock but when he bent down to pick it up it flew away. Moved again to another cover and got another grouse after flushing 4 more. At this point my uncles brittney was tired out and walkin behind him so we called it a day. Had a total of 5 grouse flushs and 1 woodcock, took 2 grouse in 2 hours of hunting. In the area were in the leaves are starting to turn and drop. I had 3 solid points out of my liver shorthair on grouse this was the first time she ever went into the grouse woods without my spoted shorthair. Only had 2 wild flushs and 1 double flush on the grouse I will probibly go back up there next sunday to try and get some more birds.

Frank,
Please PM me the GPS coordinants of that spot, I need to find some birds.

I hunted fo 4 1/2 hrs on Friday around Chelsea. Ended up with 2 woodcock being pointed, and despite being right on top of them, I couldn't even swing the gun in the crap I was hunting. The second bird, I should have just lifted my hat, because he would have flown right into it. Lot of work, can't wait to head north in 2 weeks to hit some real bird covers. My young britt is really doing a job of holding the birds, though. He's come a long way in a year.

I spent Saturday smoking fish and making deer sausage while nursing my sick son. Sunday, I took him to Hillsdale to try to kill a deer, but we only saw squirrels, and he didn't want to stay for the evening hunt.

No worries about the GPS coords, I gots plenty of spots. Going to be looking for some woodcock down in Hillsdale this weekend in between deer hunts, then up to Evart on Friday for 4 days of grouse.
