This is good to know. I could of shot about 20 of them one afternoon 2 years ago out on 109 but did not realize that it was legal (and actually encouraged). I will not make the same mistake again.

Yea this was news to me as well. I think it's great for the purpose of thinning out Coons. I suspect though that if your goal is to get the pelts for $$ then there are certain times of the year that are better than others for a good pelt.

If your wanting to take them for the money, you might want to wait about 3-5 years. This year they are mostly worthless, I have talked with 3 different fur buyers and they all say the same thing. Leave them in the woods, they are saying you could "possibly" get 5-10 dollars for a XL coon hide put up meaning skined, streched and dried this is for a prime hide.

If your wanting to kill them for the farmers, then the best best would be to drop them in a ditch or leave them lay where you shoot them. Another thing you want to consider is your not allowed to have them in your possition if you don't have a license while driving down the road.

The Mi DNR has a list of local fur buyers on their web page. You can contact any of them and try and figure out what you might be able to get for them if anything.

I would shoot them due to the issues farmers in southern michigan have with them due to overpopulation.

My father-in-law got started hunting coons for the meat. He sold them in the shops in Flint. He would bury the hide. I am not sure I would eat one, but I hate to see them dumped in a ditch if you can find someone who likes them.
