Well, I'm up in NE MI trying to get some last minute grouse hunting in. Tons of snow. Went down to hunt on the 26th, and ended up stuck, well, I could move forward and back, but could not turn around, and couldn't back up the hill to get to the main road. Yesterday it poured all day, so I just did some walking in the back 40, killed a possum, and missed a crow. Today, I made it in close to where I wanted to hunt. 2 hrs of slogging through knee deep wet snow and I was beat. Had 4 points, all rock solid, but no one home. With the 40+ mph wind, made it hard to determine if the birds flushed wild, or were just not there. Hoping to get a little better results tomorrow.

Well, finished the season with two days of grouse hunting with some shots, but no hits. Had to use the snowshoes to get in and the dogs had a really hard time. Snow was crusted but not enough to support their weight. Birds wouldn't sit very tight and were in thick pines. My oldest and I got a couple of shots. Last day up there, worked a bird we had seen the day befor and missed. Thought we lost him. Heard a chirping behind me and turned to see him going away right down the 2 track. Had a good shot, but let him go because the dogs had bumped him and I just felt he earned the right to live. Headed home, and hunted pheasants with Greg Kuch, Jason Lucas, and my buddy Glen. Took Jason's 4 month old beagle pup to get her on some rabbits. Flushed 5 hens and had some nice yelps from the pup on the rabbits. Great day in the field, great dog work, and great company to end out the year. Looking forward to next year, already.
