Posted - 06/30/2008 : 09:32:55 I just found out I was successful on my bear draw. Second year in a row. I drew 3rd hunt Baraga. I had the first hunt last season but saw quite a few bear during the 3rd season. I decided my odds were higher if I applied for the third hunt with no Pref points. It worked and I will be heading back once again to the NW UP.
Anyone else draw a bear tag?

Posted - 07/15/2008 : 18:11:04 I heard tags were going to be left over the day after the drawing. My guide called me to tell us. Last I heard the leftovers were gone the first day they became available (July 7 at 10:00 AM). I guess there was going to be around 125. Anyone know if there is actually still tags available? I might know someone who still may want one. Sometimes the website is lagging.

Posted - 07/02/2008 : 15:02:55 I am using the same guide as last year.
I have heard that about the guys running dogs. The dog hunter numbers are down for the area because of this.

Posted - 07/01/2008 : 07:26:28 Congrats Bob, Do you hunt with a guide or do it solo? I have a few budies that used to run dogs over in that neck of the woods. They have stoped due to the wolfs taking out dogs, my budie lost 3 two years ago to the wolfs. This was 3 years after lossing most of his pack to a "BIG" boar that they never could get. I guess this bear would run a circle like a rabbit and wait for the dogs and just start swating them as they came by, from what they told me this same bear was credited with killing 20+ dogs in 1 season. I have another budie that hunts with the Indians over on that side of the UP. They have taken 4 bears in the past but never nothing in the near past that I'm aware of.
