Posted - 09/22/2009 : 11:21:25 I put this video together yesterday from my bear hunt this past weekend and thought I would share it with you. It's not the biggest bear in the woods, but for my first black bear, I happy with it. It was taken on the 18th near Curran, MI on a hunting club that my dad belongs to.
Here is the link if you want to watch it on the youtube website instead:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JuZEhGEe81c

Posted - 09/23/2009 : 11:24:18 Bob Them girls realy tend to interfer with a father and son hunting trip. My son did the same thing to me a few years ago. Now he has joined the Army and is gone for 4 years I just remember the good times him and I shared.

Posted - 09/22/2009 : 20:05:42 Jason, I was reading the same thing from Michigan Sportsman a few days ago. It really sounds like the bear population is expanding well. I hunted bears the last two years. I had never hunted bear before that. I got hooked and had a blast. I have a chance to go up to Baraga this weekend. Problem is I had plans of taking the boy for the youth hunt. He may make it easy for me though. He is trying to back out because of a dance and that thing called girls.

I think we had 5 different ear tagged bears on the trail camera that were tagged at Turtle Lake Hunt Club. Steven Austin University had ear tagged and freeze branded 48 bears this spring to determine two things. One, which method of tagging works better and two, how far do the bears travel. From the pictures we have and the one bear that was shot with an ear tag, it seems that the freeze branding is inconsistent. It shows up very well on some bears and others you can hardly make out what the number is.
