Jason Walker and I went rabbit hunting this morning with his beagles. Started out at my place about 8:30 and hunted my small piece of property. Only took about 20 minutes for the cold nosed dog to open up, never did see this rabbit. After about 1 hour of hunting my place with the dogs opening up 2 or 3 different times with no rabbits we decided to head over to property 105.

Get to 105 about 10 or so, head into unit C, and the dogs get a nose full right away in the pines and take it to the small pothole in the middle of unit C right to a hole. Get over along the river and the dogs get going again. This one heads south towards M-90 along the river, at this time Jason and I are trying to get into possition when out goes a rabbit from under Jasons foot (he missed it) get the dogs on this track and again right to a hole. Continue along the river towards the north with Jasons cold nosed dog almost barking the hole way to unit D. Dogs are working a pile of down trees and brush when out pops a rabbit with no shots, well the dogs continue to work and theres the rabbit running right at Jason and he gets this one.

Hunt towards the west over to the hedge rows in unit F. right away the dogs start singing when out goes a rabbit with 4 misses (2 by each of us). Well the dogs do there job and bring the rabbit back around and I get this one. No sooner is this one in the game bag and the dogs start singing again, we see this rabbit and I end up missin it. The dogs are doing a great job working, the rabbits arnt cooperating and running in all the down trees and snow covered brush. We end up getting 1 more rabbit and missing 1 more along the hedge rows in unit F. We also seen a Deer in unit F that I forgot to put in the harvest reports.

All in all it was a great day to be out. The day started kinda slow but when the sun came out and heated up the snow and the senting conditions got better it was a real fun day. Good luck to any that decided to go rabbit or squirrel hunting its a great time to be out in the fields/woods.

P.S.
Willy the rabbits are all over when you comming up?

Jimmy,
I can't speak about the Hillsdale propertys but if you come up this way. The 105 and 116 propertys have some nice bunnys on them. I have been apart of 3 hunts for bunnys the last couple years on these propertys and they both produced some good rabbit hunting. If you hunt the 105 property start in the pines on unit C and work the river edge to the north, right into unit D and work around that unit. Then dont forget the ditches in units F and G. On the 116 property work the fence/tree lines in the middle and edge of the property along with the edges of the woods. This should be a picture of me and a budy of mine from last year on a late season rabbit hunt. http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=1175&pictureid=7173

Hey guys, a buddy of mine from work and I are toying with heading out on one last hunt. It looks like 111 is out of the club now so I must find new territory. We are looking at 3-18-09 and I am thinking about heading down to the Hillsdale props, let me know if you'd like to join. Of course, if you'd just like to draw me a map with little x's showing each tree/brushpile a rabbit is under, I'll take it. :) hee hee!

Sounds good. Dad and I hit Hillsdale 119 and 123 today, got one but didn't see much else.

Willy don't worry about it. The only thing you missed was 2 adult men and 2 hounds being made a fool of by a silly lil rabbit. At this time I don't know if this weekend will work, I might be going bird hunting. I will let you know by the end of the week what is going on.

Jason Lucas, my boys, and I hit up Hillsdale for bunnies with his little pup. The idea was to just get her in the woods and we had a long day. Jumped one bunny on 125 that ran into the swamp before we could get a shot. Tried to go after it, but the ice wasn't thick enough to suppor the dogs, let alone a human. Went over to 122 and I shot the only bunny we saw. Shot it while sitting under a brush pile and put Jason's pup on the track and let her find it. She did really good. Was a good day with the boys and the dogs.

Went rabbit hunting with Jason Walker again today. We hunted property 105, seen a total of 5 rabbits (some could have been the same rabbit). We started out in unit C with the dogs starting a track right away that headed towards M-90 and Jason pulled his dogs off it. Got over to unit D and the hounds started another rabbit that circled nice but no shots and headed back to unit C and ran around there (and us) for over an hour. Finely got the dogs in the hedge rows on units E and F. Never did get a good run going on these units but Jason did manage to jump a rabbit that I was able to put in the bag. It was a good day and Jasons dogs did a great job running them rabbits.
