This note is to say hello and let everyone know what is happening on property 116 (I am the property owner). The crop is planted and it will be soybeans this year. I believe we will plant corn next year. There are still large strips and patches of ground in grass and tree seedlings etc. I should mention that in years past (before American Sportsmens Club) the cropland was leased to a goose hunting guide. We have a large population of geese at the city ponds just south of us. The food plots were planted this spring. I purchase my seed from www.kestersnursnursery.com and have had good luck in the past.
1 The woods roads have been planted with LADINO CLOVER MIX.
2 Planted 4 plots of DEER SPECIALTY MIX, 2 on south side of unit E and 2 plots on west end of unit D. If this works well I will plant more.
3 I also planted 3 plots of TALL MIX in units C & B. The pheasant-turkeys etc. love this stuf.
4 Also put in some SUNFLOWER plots near the entrances.
Only problem is NO RAIN !!!, nothing is growing. So everyone pray for RAIN !
I need help with feral cats. People keep dumping cats out here for what ever reason. If the coyotes don't get them they winter kill. Problem is they eat up a lot of wildlife, small rabbits, pheasents etc. You are all welcome to hunt them (it is not easy). I find a .22 works best. Saw one north end of unit B a couple days ago.
Speaking of rabbits. I have never so many. Must be close to a population peak. Just built a large brush pile west end of unit D.
I have several locations where I would like to put in ponds. Just to expensive to rent an excavator. If anyone knows where I might get one inexpensive like, I would appreciate it.
Saw something for the first time about a month ago. Two big pheasant rosters fighting where unit B & C meet. I guess there are never enough hens.
I check the forums now and then if anyone has any questions

Dan,
Sorry for the long wait, I can't get free to get up that way any time soon. Been busy working on my side of town and hunting. Maybe in December for the late pheasant season, my boys and I can come out and help if it isn't done.

This plus the tree harvesting is opening this area up. We will see much more growth on the ground now. This will produce much more cover and food for the wild life. The turkeys love woods that are more open as well. Found a nice rub at the south end. This is a good time to release the apple trees in unit E. Can we fit it in? There are also apple trees in the south east corner of Unit D if we can fit it in. Good luck hunters! I know I am looking forward to my U.P. trip this Nov.. I mostly just take video.

Dan,
Are you looking for volunteers to help, or just a time that you won't be interferring with guys hunting? Or both?

Frank, lets wait until we get some frost to knock the bugs down.

Dan when are you planning on pruning the trees? Maybe we can make a work day to do this and get a few members out there to help. I am free most weekends and would be willing to come out and help, this would give me another reason to be on the property and see the changes that have been made.

Everything is growing and looking good. The South and West of unit D is one gaint food plot because of different food plots over the years. If I get some seed I believe I will plant some alfalfa on the south side of unit E next. On trips to the woods I am seeing a lot of does with fawns in the fallow areas. I have been working with some gov. people on the pond issue. They have approved a wildlife pond to be built on the South West corner of Unit C. Funding should be in place next year for construction then. Approx 1 acre in size, shallow duck etc pond. Poor fruit tree production this year. There may not be many apples in the woods this year. The apple trees in South West corner of unit E need pruning etc badly. I will cut if you guys can pile the brush.

Dan,
A pleasure paying for part of the seed. Thank you for planting and being so active in the club. I will pray for good rains this year for 116 and all of Michigan.

Thanks again,

Kuch

All the food plots have been replanted for this year. The switchgrass has also been planted and will take two years to establish. thanks for paying for the seed. My farmer is planting soybeans now and plans to put in wheat this fall. Should be good goose hunting next fall. So pray for good rains on 116.

The seed is ordered, came to $41.50. You can drop off the 20 when you are in the area or mail to 11148 Jeddo Rd, Yale Mi 48097. I will plant this spring, takes two years to really take off. Thanks again. Dan

When do you need the money and how do I get it to you?
