Posted - 11/21/2007 : 18:19:33 ASC looks very interesting to me but I have some questions. (1) Do you expect to have openings in 2008? (2) I need assistance getting into/out of the woods, cleaning/moving game, etc because of my disability - is a "helper" who doesn't hunt still considered and treated as a guest? (3)What is the experience of other members with respect to getting the reservations that they want? Thanks for the information! |

We're all but ready to open membership again. We shut down new membership between the months of October and November this year because as we've grown we also wanted to be sensitive to all the last minute details or issues that tend to come up from our current members.
If we kept on taking on new members then our management team would spend more time working out the details with new members and not being able to hunt ourselves. Plus, we wanted to be sensitive to those who have been apart of our team thus far and needed to take care of them first.
So, we needed to get past opening week of gun season through Thanksgiving and we just haven't changed the info. on the webiste, but we'll likely have that deleted here shortly.
Further, we would really like to accomodate more disabled hunters/sportsmen as we grow. I have a disable cousin who I've grown up with and I witnessed first had the many opportunities that she didn't have available to her for one reason or another. Personally, I'd like to make our properties readily accessible for all members whether handicapped or not and too ensure all sportsmen get a chance to experience quality hunting.
Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, feel free to contact me personally on my mobile at 248.310.9420.
Thank you for your interest.
God Bless,
Mike Kirby

Posted - 11/23/2007 : 08:51:30 Thanks very much - this is just what I've been looking for! What is the best way for me to become member - keep checking the website to see when you have openings or is there a waiting / contact list? |

Posted - 11/22/2007 : 11:05:03 If the helper is not hunting, then he would be ok. Currently we don't limit guests who aren't hunting. Our reasoning is we want as many people exposed to the property so that they may decide to join. If the helper wanted to hunt, a guest membership can be purchased that would allow them unlimited # of times hunting with you in the year for $395. We have a couple of other gentlemen who have disability limitations, and we try to accomodate them as much as possible. The biggest problem may be the vehicle. Some of our property would be hard to access, and in some it would be limited to ATV type traffic. Our landowners have been very accommodating in that respect.
As far as property, the hardest time to get a particular property is opening day of firearm deer season with archery opener a close second. Since you can reserve 90 days ahead, you should have plenty of time to get familiar with a particular property before you actually hunt it. Folks who wait until September to join, will have a harder time getting a "prime" hunting spot for the opener, but we always have units open on those days that would give the member a better than good chance of seeing and taking deer.

Posted - 11/22/2007 : 10:43:37 I would suspect something could be worked out. Just as long as the helper was a non hunter and he would not carry any kind of weapon.

Posted - 11/22/2007 : 10:31:13 Thanks very much for the quick reply Frank. My "helper" tyically is my brother so he doesn't qualify as a family member (and my spouse doesn't share my passion for hunting). Is there any chance that the club might consider amending the by-laws to allow such "helpers" or "assistants' for disabled hunters? As a disabled hunter, I have a DNR issued "permit to hunt from a stationary vehicle" - this permit must be obtained from the DNR after proof of disability requiring a wheelchair. My suggestion would be that members with this permit be allowed to have non-huntong "helpers" in the field with them. I'd be happy to discuss this with you or anyone else that might be interested. Thanks again. |

Posted - 11/21/2007 : 22:05:07 Hello, My name is Frank Manning I am one of the landmanagers for the club.
I will try and answer your qustions.
(1) I would expect to see the member ship open back up around the first of the year.
(2) If your helper is a family member then the guest policy (sp?) wouldn't aply. Your family is included in the membership package. This would include spouse, dependent child.
(3) For the most part the reservations for any one property is generaly open. We do have some propertys that get hunted more then others. And some propertys are better for 1 type of game then others. I started out as a regular member prior to becomming a landmanager for the club. I have been a member sence the 2004-2005 season. I don't always get the property/unit that would be my first choice but there is always a property/unit that is open for reservation that I can hunt. If you have any other qustions please feel free to give me a call or send me a e-mail.
